Please use this page to share ideas, tips, and feedback on the HP 2133 Mini-Note PC.

I shared this on a Forum a couple of days ago, but I found the SUSE Linux operating system too inflexible and a bit long in the tooth. To overcome this I installed Ubuntu over the top of it to some degree of success. However, those who have done a lot of work with this haven't found a good solution for the wireless driver. Thus it worked intermittently for me. My next attempt was installing Windows XP. There are plenty of step-by-steps out there to do this (as there are with Ubuntu as well). The one I used is http://www.hp2133guide.com/how-to-install-windows-xp-on-the-hp-2133-mini-note/. This assumes that you can plug an external CD/DVD player into the laptop. If you don't have one, there are ways to put an install of XP on a flash drive. I used the method here: http://www.vandomburg.net/installing-windows-xp-from-usb/. Not all the files listed there were available, so you may need to do a little hunting, but if you are persistent you should get what you need. Note that you will need to keep you XP install very slim as it will want to take almost all of the 4Gigs that you have. It does run very well however.

Jason Harrop  says:

Slow as molasses.

Old Java (1.4.2); old Firefox (2.0.x).

Software updates took ages (and this wasn't the network being slow).

Jason,

I agree. The software is as bad as the hardware is good...

We'll definitely have to do better next year.

Best regards
